Agnaldo Turiwara was shot dead inside the lands that the Agropalma claims to own, on the border between the municipalities of Acará and Tailândia, in Pará. Two other indigenous, Jonas and José Luís, were also shot. They were part of a group of indigenous people who were ambushed in the Acará Valley, where Agropalma has oil palm plantations, when they were travelling on their motorbikes along an old trail, towards the forest, in search of food. The region has a history of territorial conflict between traditional communities and the palm oil company and is known as the oil palm war. In a statement, Agropalma said it was "awaiting an investigation by the competent authorities. The company places itself at the disposal of the authorities and will collaborate with the elucidation of the events".
