Phil Bloomer: Upcoming Executive Director transition and my future plans

BHRRC
by Phil Bloomer, Executive Director, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre
After 12 great years working for the Resource Centre, it is time for me to leave the post of Executive Director, and help the transition to the next ED.
I feel this is the right time for me to move aside and allow the organisation to bring in a new leader. Thanks to our diverse allies and networks across the business and human rights movement, our shared efforts are delivering powerful impact for those that, together, we seek to serve around the world. Our new Strategic Plan is focused on the greatest opportunities and challenges in our field worldwide – from the just transition to green economies, to business in rising authoritarianism, labour rights in supply chains, and accelerating technology. The Global Team is brilliant, diverse and well distributed worldwide. Our leadership teams are clear, strong, and have the trust of our network. Our finances are sound and resilient.
I am not going anywhere fast – I have committed to the Board to stay as Executive Director until our Board has recruited and inducted the next Executive Director. Our Board has established a Recruitment Committee and they will announce the opening of the recruitment tomorrow.
There will be more time for me to say thank you along the way. But with this notice of my transition out, please know that it comes with enormous gratitude for the advances that we have achieved together and I hope will continue with the Resource Centre. This is for a cause of such importance and magnitude. I feel blessed to have been able to work worldwide with such a network of capable, committed, and kind colleagues, partners and funders throughout these twelve years.
My own plans for the future are not defined. This allows me to continue as ED until we find the next one. But I will not be ‘putting my slippers on’! There continues to be a world to win, and many bad actors who are equally determined to prevail.
Thank you for all our cooperation, and your support and solidarity over the last twelve years. This will not be my last blog before I leave, I’m sure.
