Bangladesh: Apparel buyers call for suppliers to halt shipments, absorb higher costs & accept discounts following US tariff announcement; incl. co. non-responses
In April 2025, it was reported that several US apparel buyers had requested Bangladeshi suppliers temporarily halt shipments until 10 April, as they sought clarity on the US administration's 'reciprocal' tariffs.
It is also alleged that buyers had instructed suppliers to bear the financial cost of the tariffs, with Walmart and Levi's reportedly demanding discounts, and Gap allegedly directing suppliers to pay the extra tariffs.
In March 2026, Business & Human Rights Centre invited Walmart, Levi's and Gap to respond. They did not.
