EU: European Commission issues preliminary finding that Facebook and Instagram's design breaches EU law over risks to users' wellbeing
The European Commission has released its preliminary findings from an investigation into Meta's compliance with the Digital Services Act (DSA), launched in May 2024. The Commission considers the design of Meta's social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram, to be addictive and to create risks to users' mental and physical health. Meta now has the opportunity to respond to the findings, after which the Commission will issue a final decision that could include substantial fines.
