On 3 March 2021, 70 water defenders were cited for public nuisance in Grand Rapids, Minnesota as they protested Enbridge’s Line 3 pipeline.

Enbridge contractors in Minnesota are building Line 3, the largest oil project in the company's history. Water protectors have built six resistance camps along the pipeline route and engaged in direct action to protest the pipeline construction due to environmental and human rights concerns. According to HRDs protesting the pipeline, it wil emit the equivalent greenhouse gases of 50 coal power plants or 38 million vehicles and cross under 200 bodies of water, passing through wetlands where wild rice, a traditional Ojibwe food, grows. The pipeline will carry diluted bitumen, a heavy oil that sinks in water, making it harder to clean up.
