Rostrud reports on death of worker at Serov metallurgical plant, 16 July 2025

The State Labour Inspectorate in the Sverdlovsk Region (Rostrud), summarising its work for the last week of June 2025, reported the death of an employee at the Nadezhdinsky Metallurgical Plant that occurred at the workplace. The accident took place on 9 April. Rostrud has completed its investigation into the incident.

The deceased worked as a boring lathe operator in the mechanical workshop. “The investigation established that the victim was cleaning a vertical milling machine of dirt and metal shavings and, while moving, fell onto a metal floor, sustaining a closed traumatic brain injury. The primary cause of the accident was inadequate organisation of work, including a failure by managers and specialists to ensure control over employees’ compliance with labour discipline and occupational safety requirements. The employer violated requirements for providing workers with personal protective equipment, and the injured worker was allowed to perform work without wearing a protective helmet. The investigation materials have been forwarded to investigative bodies and the prosecutor’s office, and the issue of holding those responsible administratively liable is being considered,” Rostrud’s website reports.
