The Tamakoshi-Kathmandu Transmission Line in Nepal, supported by the ADB, AIIB, and NEA, has faced strong opposition from Indigenous Tamang communities and local communities of Bojheni northeast of Kathmandu. These communities have raised concerns about the lines running over their houses, lands, religious and cultural sites; lack of Free, Prior and Informed Consent; harm to livelihoods; and displacement from their ancestral lands.

Indigenous communities and human rights organisations have strongly condemned ongoing repression by police and armed forces on Indigenous peoples protesting the construction of the Tamakoshi-Kathmandu Transmission Line and its substation. This includes arrests, intimidation, and physical violence against community members.

We invited ADB, AIIB, and NEA to address these allegations; they did not respond. In August 2025, communities filed a compliant with the Compliance Review Panel of the Asian Development Bank’s Accountability Mechanism.
