Russia: Worker killed in accident at Bratsk Aluminium Smelter owned by RUSAL

On 21 April 2025, a fatal accident occurred at a branch of PJSC RUSAL Bratsk in the city of Shelekhov (Irkutsk Region) at the hazardous production facility of hazard class II, “Aluminium Electrolysis Workshop” (reg. No. A67-00149-0022).
An anode worker of the 5th grade in aluminium production was carrying out work on electrolyser No. 824 to reposition anode pins and install a plug. While installing the plug, gassing occurred under pin No. 58, resulting in an ejection of molten material; the worker’s clothing caught fire and he sustained severe burn injuries.
The worker later died from the burns. The investigation is ongoing.
