Xiaomi did not respond to allegations regarding privacy and security vulnerabilities

On 17 December 2025, the Business & Human Rights Centre invited Xiaomi to respond to allegations that installing the state-run Sanchar Saathi app on Xiaomi devices in India would compromise the privacy and security of users. Media reports indicate that the Indian government has already withdrawn its requirement for all smartphones to come pre-installed with the app following industry concerns and public criticism. In light of this, we offered Xiaomi the opportunity to clarify its position, address the privacy concerns raised, and outline any next steps regarding the Sanchar Saathi app, given it has not publicly commented on the situation. Xiaomi did not respond.
