ABIOVE responded to 'Retreat or respect?' report

[Translated by the Business and Human Rights Centre from Portuguese to English]

The Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries (ABIOVE) has initiated steps to withdraw from the Soy Moratorium Commitment Agreement. The agreement, created in 2006, fulfilled its historic role over nearly two decades, leaving an unquestionable legacy that established Brazil as a global reference in sustainable production. It is important to highlight that the Federal Supreme Court (STF) recognized the legality of the agreement. In addition, even as a voluntary mechanism, the Moratorium was widely recognized by the federal government as a fundamental part of its public policy for environmental preservation in the Amazon biome and was celebrated for its clear positive results....

ABIOVE believes that legislation will ensure the continuity of public policies for preservation and deforestation control, combined with the guidelines of the recently approved CONAMA Resolution No. 510/2025...

ABIOVE considers legal certainty to be an essential pillar for economic development and is therefore committed to continuing to secure access for Brazilian soy and its by-products to international markets...

The monitoring legacy and expertise acquired over nearly 20 years will not be lost. Going forward, compliance with the strict demands of global markets will be handled individually, with confidence in Brazilian authorities to fully implement a new regulatory framework
