Biodiversity and Land Management

Land clearing, including the removal of trees and topsoil, is an initial and necessary phase of mining to access ore bodies. This process is a highly regulated process under government-issued 'borrow-to-use" permits within the forest-use authorisation framework (IPPKH), which require strict environmental management and ongoing monitoring.

Pollution Prevention and Water Management

WBN shares the concerns raised regarding water quality and river pollution. Beyond routine water sampling in rivers, effective environmental management requires strong upstream controls, including responsible land clearing, erosion prevention, integrated water management and revegetation.

Sinec late 2025, WBN has significantly expanded both its forest reclamation program and water management infrastructure. This includes an extensive system of diversion channels and interconnected sedimentation ponds designed to allow sediment and naturally occurring metals to settle before water is discharge.
