USA: A new generative-AI policing tool by Axon Enterprise allegedly built to evade accountability

Shutterstock

In 2025, Axon released its “Draft One” tool, which uses body-worn camera audio and generative AI to auto-create police-report drafts. Civil-rights analysts argue the system is “allegedly designed to evade accountability for bias or mistakes,” citing how the tool can obscure when AI is used and reduce transparency and human oversight.

The concerns include how officers are required to review and correct AI-generated narratives, but audit logs and disclosures about the AI’s role remain opaque, raising questions about fairness and error correction in policing.

The Business and Human Rights Resource Centre invited Axon to respond, and their responses can be found below.
