Contractors and sup­pli­ers at Mopani Cop­per Mines (MCM) and Konkola Cop­per Mines (KCM) have com­plained that two giant min­ing com­pan­ies have not paid them for almost four months for the goods and ser­vices they sup­plied to the min­ing com­pan­ies.

He said the cul­ture of mak­ing con­tract­ors and sup­pli­ers wait for four to five months before being paid was not only an infringe­ment of human rights, but was also neg­at­ively affect­ing local busi­nesses and live­li­hoods.

“These delays place con­tract­ors and sup­pli­ers in dif­fi­cult cir­cum­stances, espe­cially as some have remained unpaid even dur­ing the fest­ive sea­son, leav­ing them uncer­tain about meet­ing basic needs and end-of-year oblig­a­tions,” Mr Mwamba said.
