Malaysia: CSOs call for cancellation of Lynas' rare earth supply contract with the U.S. over concerns of complicity in human rights violations in Palestine

"Stop Lynas From Exporting Rare Earth to the U.S. Department of War" 20 June 2026

...

On 16 March 2026, Lynas Rare Earth Ltd signed a letter of intent to sell $96,000,000 worth of rare earth to the U.S. Department of War, which is a major partner in Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian people. There is a high probability that the rare earths that are processed in Malaysia will be used for the purpose of the manufacturing of advanced military technology that will ultimately be used to kill Palestinian people, including children and babies. By supplying essential raw materials in the manufacturing of weapons, Malaysia risks being involved in genocides, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and violations of international law committed by the US-Israel alliance.  ...

...

As such, Lynas’ rare earth US$96 million rare earth oxides supply deal with Pentagon/US Department of War signed in March 2026[2] contradicted with Malaysia’s foreign policy and long standing support and recognition of the state of Palestine, not to mention the toxic radioactive health and environmental hazards its operations have already generated.

Honourable Prime Minister, we call on you to act now to protect Malaysia’s integrity and sovereignty, as further rare earth exports for the US Department of War risks making Malaysia complicit in genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity, not only in Palestine but also in Iran and other neighbouring countries which the US and Israel has continued to attack recently amidst global condemnations. We expect a formal public response to the above mentioned demands by 30th July 2026.
