Workers at the Samannoud Textile and Rugs Company in Gharbia recently concluded a strike that was initiated in response to the suspension of health insurance services. This interruption occurred due to the company's failure to remit both its own insurance contributions and those deducted from employees' wages. Consequently, workers requiring surgery or ongoing medication for chronic health conditions experienced significant barriers to accessing necessary medical care.

Despite the resolution, there remains apprehension among employees regarding the sustainability of these measures. The company has a documented history of labor disputes, including recurrent strikes over issues such as delayed salaries, unpaid annual bonuses, the installment-based payment of wages, and non-compliance with the minimum wage regulations.

In July, the Business & Human Rights Centre invited Wabaryat Samannoud to respond to the allegations. However, the company could not be contacted, as no publicly available contact information was accessible.
