Hakatutobu village in Bone's bay is located just 1 kilometre from mining sites in the Kolaka regency. Two of them are state-owned PT Aneka Tambang Tbk and PT Vale Indonesia Tbk, under the MIND ID holding group, which operates in the Pomalaa block, dubbed as one of the national strategic projects (Proyek Strategis Nasional), focusing on producing Electronic Vehicle (EV) raw materials.

Mining activities in the Pomalaa blocks are allegedly concerning several residents who live along three rivers: Latumbi, Lambu Ato, and Hakatutobu, since the mud sedimentation in the coastal areas is allegedly coming from mining activities near the streams and is bringing their waste materials to the bay. Red-colored mud was detected, and allegedly polluted the fishing areas for residents nearby.
